Ecdysis Foundation seeks to transform agriculture with regenerative principles. Through our 1000 Farms Initiative we generate biological inventories of farm sites in various stages of regenerative adoption. We are analyzing key factors to show producers the health of their land, how their land compares with others, and how to incorporate regenerative methods into their agricultural production in order to disseminate these farm-level results back to the farmers and agricultural communities to inspire change. One aspect of this is collecting and identifying many hundreds of thousands of insects.

Through this BugBox application, we use artificial intelligence to give preliminary identifications to each insect we collect. We then review a proportion of identifications and retrain our model to improve it over time. Much of this is currently behind authentication for staff and collaborators, but we are now making available to the public over 100,000 identified specimen images through our collection browser.
